UPDATE: The Evans boys basketball team has just clinched the Metro Conference West tournament title in a dramatic overtime victory against Windermere, winning 47-44 on February 3, 2023. This marks their second consecutive overtime win, showcasing their resilience and defensive prowess.

The Trojans, now with a record of 14-4, faced a 10-point deficit before rallying back at home. Evans’ clutch play was highlighted by senior guard Johnny Wright, whose game-tying shot sent the contest into overtime. Junior guard Abimael Belleus emerged as the star, scoring six of the team’s seven points in the extra period, including two critical free throws that secured the victory.

“This was a must-win for us,” Belleus stated. “We gotta keep stacking up wins.” His decisive spin move for a basket gave Evans a critical lead of 45-42 that they maintained until the final buzzer.

In the Metro East final, Oak Ridge (12-7) also triumphed, defeating Winter Park decisively with a score of 60-38. Both teams displayed exceptional defensive strategies, confirming their status as top contenders in the state.
