Evanston Animal Shelter’s Art Fundraiser Boosts Adoptions NOW
UPDATE: The Evanston Animal Shelter is making headlines TODAY with a groundbreaking fundraiser that supports local artists while promoting animal adoption. The event, titled “The Love of Animals Art Show,” took place on July 15, 2023, featuring the talents of over 30 local artists eager to contribute to a worthy cause.
This vibrant event showcased a variety of artistic mediums, with many artists pledging to donate between 50% and 100% of their sales directly to the shelter. Anna Marie Crovetti, a key coordinator for the exhibit, emphasized the enthusiasm within the Evanston art community. “They all wanted to jump in to make a difference for the animals,” she stated, highlighting the strong connection between creativity and compassion.
Among the featured artists was Kristin Conneely, who shares a personal bond with the shelter through her rescue dog, a Lab-Shepherd mix adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Rescue is the way to go,” Conneely passionately remarked, illustrating the profound impact that shelter animals can have on families. Her contribution included a stunning mosaic portrait of her dog, crafted from china and glass, underscoring the emotional connection many attendees felt toward their pets.
The event created an atmosphere of celebration, with attendees ringing a bell at the front of the shelter for each sale made, prompting cheers and applause. This unique feature not only uplifted spirits but also reinforced the event’s mission to support both local artists and animals in need. Lisa Degliantoni, who assisted with payments, noted that the bell ringing added excitement and encouraged participation from the community.
The new facility for the Evanston Animal Shelter, opened in 2024, is more than three times larger than its predecessor, allowing for increased community engagement. “It’s exciting because this is an awesome new building, and there’s a ton of people who aren’t going to adopt a cat or a dog, but they might come in for a fundraiser,” Degliantoni explained, emphasizing the shelter’s strategic role in fostering community connections.
As the first event of its kind in Evanston, Crovetti expressed hopes for an annual tradition, enhancing community relations through art and animal welfare. “We’re expecting great relationships with the community,” she said, reinforcing the shelter’s commitment to being an inclusive hub for animal lovers and art enthusiasts alike.
With the success of this event, the Evanston Animal Shelter not only supports local art but also paves the way for increased adoptions and community involvement. The urgency to act in support of these animals has never been more pressing, and initiatives like this inspire hope and connection among residents.
For those who missed out, the shelter encourages ongoing support for its mission and welcomes visits to explore the beautiful artwork and potentially find a new furry friend. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the shelter continues to build bridges between art, community, and animal welfare.
