Evernote Users Urged to Switch Amid Rising Costs and Issues
URGENT UPDATE: Users are being strongly advised to stop using Evernote for note-taking as the platform faces severe performance issues and steep price increases. With the current annual cost of the Personal plan at approximately $130 and the Professional plan exceeding $170, many are questioning the value of this once-popular tool.
Current users are voicing frustrations over Evernote’s sluggish performance and recent limitations on its free plan, which now restricts users to just 50 notes, one notebook, and one device. This drastic reduction has rendered the free tier nearly useless for those who depend on note-taking for their daily tasks.
The issues stem from Evernote’s reliance on Electron-based applications, which can feel more like loading a web page than utilizing a swift, native app. Users report waiting 5-10 seconds for the application to load, a frustrating delay for anyone in need of quick access to notes or information during meetings.
Furthermore, Evernote’s recent pivot towards AI features, such as AI-powered search and editing, has not captivated users enough to justify the rising costs. Many are finding that competing platforms offer superior speed and functionality for a fraction of the cost. Alternatives like Bear Notes, which provides advanced formatting and beautiful themes for around $30 per year, are gaining traction as viable substitutes.
The growing dissatisfaction with Evernote is compounded by concerns over vendor lock-in. The platform’s proprietary .enex file format complicates the process for users seeking to export their notes, often resulting in formatting issues and lost attachments during transfers.
In a climate where productivity apps are evolving rapidly, Evernote’s performance issues and high costs have prompted what many are referring to as the “great Evernote exodus.” Users are encouraged to explore alternatives that not only promise efficiency but also align with their budgetary constraints.
As July 2023 progresses, productivity enthusiasts are urged to reconsider their reliance on Evernote. With a plethora of modern and efficient note-taking solutions available, the time to act is now.
Stay tuned for further updates on Evernote’s future as users continue to monitor the platform’s developments, hoping for significant improvements from new ownership under Bending Spoons.
