UPDATE: As a powerful winter storm sweeps across the United States, tech enthusiasts are turning to innovative solutions to tackle the snow. One man in New Jersey is making headlines for using a $4,999 autonomous snow blower to clear his driveway while he relaxes indoors.

Winter Storm Fern has left over six inches of snow in parts of New Jersey, affecting over 250 million Americans struggling to dig out from the heavy snowfall. However, Tom Moloughney, a tech reviewer and host of the State of Charge YouTube channel, showcased the capabilities of the Yarbo Snow Blower from the comfort of his home.

On January 25, 2026, Moloughney documented the autonomous snow blower’s performance as it cleared his long driveway, measuring 6,000 sq.ft. Despite the harsh conditions, he enjoyed a warm cup of coffee while the robot went to work. “This is going to be a great test to see if this robot can handle a 6,000 sq.ft. driveway during a major winter storm,” he shared on X.

The 230-pound Yarbo Snow Blower, which can throw snow up to 40 feet and operate in temperatures as low as minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit, features a built-in Wi-Fi connection allowing it to operate autonomously. When its battery ran low, the machine returned to its charging pad and recharged for about an hour and a half before continuing its task.

Moloughney’s updates on X revealed the robot successfully cleared the driveway, walkway, and garage area. “It will continue to do that until the driveway is completely done twice,” he noted during the storm, emphasizing the robot’s potential to work continuously until the snow stops falling.

However, the autonomous snow blower isn’t without its challenges. Moloughney reported extensive digital setup was needed before the storm, and the device struggled with GPS connectivity in certain areas of his driveway. During a previous snowstorm, hail left a sheet of ice that the robot could not clear, demonstrating the limitations of the technology.

Despite these issues, Moloughney praised the snow blower’s performance, stating it was “kicking ass” as it worked through the night. Videos of the device in action have gone viral, as many Americans express a mix of admiration and envy for this modern snow-clearing solution.

As the storm continues, the Yarbo Snow Blower proves to be more than just a gadget; it represents a shift towards automation in household chores. With the weather forecast predicting more snow in the coming days, many are left wondering if this technology could become a staple in homes across the country.

Stay tuned for further updates as more Americans adapt to the challenges posed by Winter Storm Fern and explore high-tech solutions for snow removal.
