Pennsylvania Republicans Score High on Trump Policies, New Report Reveals
BREAKING: A new report reveals that two central Pennsylvania Republicans, Representatives Scott Perry and John Joyce, have overwhelmingly supported policies championed by former President Donald Trump, earning scores of 96% and 86% respectively. This urgent finding comes from the Institute for Legislative Analysis, a conservative group with deep ties to the GOP, highlighting significant partisan divides in Congress.
The report, dubbed the “Trump Score,” rates lawmakers based on their alignment with Trump’s policies, analyzing a range of legislative actions, including amendments and procedural motions. In stark contrast, Pennsylvania’s least Trump-aligned Democratic lawmaker, Senator John Fetterman, voted with the former president only 6% of the time.
Perry, representing the Harrisburg area’s 10th Congressional District, has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s agenda and a member of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus. Notably, he has promoted unfounded conspiracy theories regarding the 2020 election and voted against certifying Pennsylvania’s electoral votes shortly after the January 6 Capitol attack. He declined to be interviewed by the House January 6 Committee, further underscoring his controversial standing.
Joyce, who is campaigning for a fifth term, represents a district that spans parts of Adams, Franklin, and Perry counties. His alignment with Trump is evident as he ties his campaign efforts to the former president’s policies.
Following Perry and Joyce, other Pennsylvania Republicans showed varying degrees of alignment with Trump’s agenda: Representative Mike Kelly scored 73%, Glenn Thompson at 72%, and Brian Fitzpatrick lagging behind with just 51%.
On the Democratic side, the report indicates that Rep. Chrissy Houlahan from Chester County is the most aligned with Trump policies among Democrats, with an 18% rating, followed by Rep. Brendan Boyle at 13.8%.
The analysis sheds light on a critical aspect of legislative behavior. As Ryan McGowan, CEO of the ILA, states, “The media’s focus on high-profile bills often creates the impression that members of both parties are unified in their support or opposition to Trump’s policies.” He emphasized, “By incorporating often-overlooked procedural votes, it’s clear that many lawmakers’ voting records do not align with the America First agenda they promote on the campaign trail.”
As this report gains traction, it raises questions about the true alignment of lawmakers with their party’s platform and the implications for upcoming elections. Voters in Pennsylvania and beyond should watch closely as these dynamics play out in the political arena.
