A new voice in indie-pop is about to emerge from small-town West Texas. Solya, a talented teen singer-songwriter, will release her debut album, Queen of Texas, on March 6. She kicks off her U.S. tour on February 27 at Club Dada in Dallas, showcasing her unique sound that merges surreal, retro-leaning ballads reminiscent of artists like Lana Del Rey and Julee Cruise.

Solya has crafted an album that reflects her personal journey, exploring themes of empowerment and healing. In an interview with the Luna Collective, she expressed her desire for listeners to feel uplifted, even when engaging with the more melancholic aspects of her music. “I want people to feel empowered … when they’re listening to sad songs,” she stated.

The album is produced by Danny Reisch, known for his work with bands such as Local Natives and White Denim. Queen of Texas features an array of tracks that delve into the complexities of toxic relationships. Among them is the single “19,” which should not be confused with the well-known song by the Old 97’s of the same name.

To build anticipation, Solya has released the music video for “19” along with other tracks on YouTube. Her sound, influenced by her parents’ collection of David Bowie and Neil Young albums, evokes a sense of tuneful gloom that resonates with many.

The Dallas concert at Club Dada, located at 2720 Elm St., will feature Tele Novella as the opening act. Tickets are priced at $28 and can be purchased through dadadallas.com.

As Solya prepares to take the stage, her debut album and tour present a significant moment in her burgeoning career, positioning her as a potential breakout star in the indie-pop scene. With a unique blend of emotional depth and musical creativity, she could soon be on her way to becoming recognized as indie-pop royalty.
