Saginaw’s Salad Bar Launches with Fresh Delights, Opens Today

UPDATE: A new culinary gem is now open in downtown Saginaw, MI, as The Salad Bar by Soul Food Sistas officially launches today, May 15, 2024. Owner Latasha Lawson invites locals to experience a fresh, customizable dining option packed with high-quality ingredients, from fresh salads to homemade soups and smoothies.

Lawson, who has invested her “blood, sweat, and tears” into this venture, began her journey with the catering company Soul Food Sistas. After encouragement from friends and a personal commitment to her vision, she opened The Salad Bar inside the SVRC Marketplace at 203 S. Washington Ave. Lawson emphasizes that her offerings are not just meals—they are crafted with care, featuring house-made proteins, dressings, and even recipes from her family.

The Salad Bar is fully stocked with fresh greens, including spring mix, romaine, and spinach. Customers can choose from a variety of toppings such as banana peppers, onions, carrots, tomatoes, and strawberries. The menu includes signature specials like the Kenya Special, created in honor of Lawson’s late friend, which includes chicken, shrimp, and a medley of fresh vegetables.

“Everything is house-made,” Lawson stated. “I love all of my customers; I love all the community support.” Patrons can build their salads step-by-step, selecting their greens, proteins, vegetables, and dressings. Vegan options are also available, catering to diverse dietary preferences.

In addition to salads, The Salad Bar serves sandwiches, wraps, and rotating soups, including a popular chicken and dumpling recipe from Lawson’s 87-year-old mother, Lettie Donald. Lawson highlights the importance of fresh, natural ingredients while ensuring that flavor remains a priority.

Operating hours are as follows: Tuesdays for taco salads featuring turkey taco meat from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Lawson encourages community members to visit and explore the offerings, noting that there is even more variety in a second cooler, encouraging patrons to inquire about specific items.

Lawson expressed her enthusiasm for being part of the SVRC Marketplace, an incubator for local businesses. “I wish more people knew about the SVRC Marketplace. It’s a great starting point for any small business,” she said.
