South Korean Author Baek Se-hee Passes Away at 35, Donates Organs
BREAKING: South Korean author Baek Se-hee, beloved for her impactful memoir I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki, has tragically passed away at the age of 35. The Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency confirmed her death earlier today, revealing that she saved five lives through organ donation.
In a heartfelt statement, the agency described Baek as “a star in the sky,” following her selfless decision to donate her heart, lungs, liver, and both kidneys at the National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital. The exact cause and date of death remain undisclosed, but her legacy of compassion shines brightly.
Lee Sam-yeol, director of the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency, expressed gratitude for Baek’s extraordinary act of kindness:
“The love Baek shared at the end of her life — after offering comfort and hope through her heartfelt writing — has become a miracle that gives life to others.”
Born in 1990 in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, Baek faced her own struggles with mental health, which she eloquently shared through her writings. Diagnosed with dysthymia, she sought therapy and transformed her experiences into her best-selling memoir published in 2018. Its sequel, I Want to Die but I Still Want to Eat Tteokbokki, followed in 2019, both translated into English by Bloomsbury.
Baek’s younger sister, Baek Da-hee, spoke emotionally about her sister’s life and aspirations:
“My sister, whom I loved most, wanted to write, to connect with hearts through writing and to nurture dreams and hopes.”
She concluded with a moving tribute, saying,
“I hope she can now rest peacefully in heaven. I love you so much.”
Baek’s contributions to literature and her unwavering compassion have left an indelible mark on her readers and the community. As we mourn her untimely passing, the impact of her words continues to resonate, reminding us of the beauty and fragility of life.
WHAT’S NEXT: Fans and readers are encouraged to honor Baek’s memory by sharing her works and discussing the importance of mental health awareness. As tributes pour in, her legacy as a voice for the vulnerable will undoubtedly inspire future generations.
