UPDATE: Tottenville High School delivered a powerful performance against Murry Bergtraum, winning 63-49 in a highly anticipated PSAL 4A Conference clash on January 13, 2024. The victory solidifies Tottenville’s impressive record, bringing them to 8-0 in the league and 11-2 overall.

The Pirates showcased their depth with standout contributions from Brianna Ardolic and Gabriella Ortiz, who scored 18 and 16 points, respectively. “Murry Bergtraum is a tough team,” said head coach Jessica Althoff. “Like us, they press the entire game and are physical in the paint.”

The Lady Blazers of Manhattan fell to 8-2 in the league following this loss, as they struggled to keep pace with Tottenville’s relentless defense. Earlier this season, Bergtraum suffered a defeat against unbeaten Thurgood Marshall, but their resilience was evident throughout the match.

Key contributions also came from Grace Anderson and Araya Lichtman, who both played pivotal roles in breaking the press and creating scoring opportunities. Anderson recorded 10 points, 6 steals, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Lichtman added 10 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Althoff praised Anderson, stating, “She was all over the court today doing the other stuff we needed her to do.”

Tottenville’s defense was crucial, effectively containing Bergtraum’s high-octane offense. “We needed to make adjustments and other girls stepped up well when we needed them to,” Althoff noted. The Pirates demonstrated teamwork, moving the ball efficiently and waiting for high-percentage shots rather than forcing plays.

Looking ahead, Tottenville faces a busy schedule this week, with their next game against New Dorp High School at home on Tuesday. Fans and players alike are eager to see if the Pirates can maintain their winning streak as they continue their pursuit of a championship title.
