URGENT UPDATE: Starting this weekend, the Boca Grande Parking Ordinance will be enforced, according to a statement from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. This significant change impacts both residents and visitors, emphasizing the new parking regulations that are now in effect.

An electronic signboard will be installed at the county line this Thursday to alert everyone about the enforcement, said Todd Olmer, public affairs captain for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. “When deputies observe violations, they will use discretion, issuing warnings or citations on a case-by-case basis,” Olmer added, underscoring the importance of community cooperation in educating the public about these changes.

The new parking restrictions include mandatory parking passes for residents and island workers. Additionally, hotels and rental units will distribute paper passes to guests. Homeowners can request paper guest passes for visitors needing to park on the street. Notably, there is a three-hour parking limit for non-pass holders, particularly in high-traffic areas like 5th Street. For special events of “limited duration,” parking passes are not required. Churches located on Gilchrist are permitted to park in the median from 3rd to 5th on Sundays.

Residents are urged to pick up their parking permits on designated dates from 9 a.m. to noon at the Crowninshield Community House. The upcoming dates include February 2, February 4, February 9, February 11, February 12, February 16, February 18, February 19, February 23, February 25, and February 26.

These new measures aim to enhance parking management on the island, ensuring accessibility for both residents and visitors while promoting responsible parking practices. Community members are encouraged to share this information widely to ensure everyone is informed ahead of the enforcement.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
