Vince McMahon’s 100 MPH Crash Caught on Police Video: Urgent Details
UPDATE: Newly released police video shows former WWE executive Vince McMahon involved in a high-speed crash while driving at over 100 mph on a Connecticut highway last summer. The incident, which occurred on July 24, 2023, has emerged as a significant concern, especially given McMahon’s history and recent controversies.
The footage reveals McMahon, 80, driving a 2024 Bentley Continental GT on the Merritt Parkway in Westport when he collided with a BMW. The crash unfolded just moments after a state trooper began to pursue him, as the dashcam video shows McMahon accelerating and then failing to brake in time. The collision sent debris flying across the highway, narrowly missing other vehicles.
In a tense exchange captured on police bodycam video, Detective Maxwell Robins asked McMahon, “Why were you driving all over 100 mph?” McMahon responded, “I got my granddaughter’s birthday,” highlighting the personal stakes that led to this reckless behavior.
The crash, which resulted in no serious injuries, coincided with the same day WWE legend Hulk Hogan passed away in Florida. The situation escalated when debris from McMahon’s crash struck another vehicle, with the driver reportedly wearing a WWE shirt.
McMahon was cited for reckless driving and following too closely. A state judge subsequently allowed him to enter a pretrial probation program, which, if successfully completed by next October, will erase the charges from his record. He was also ordered to donate $1,000 to charity. His attorney, Mark Sherman, emphasized that the crash was an accident, stating, “Not every car accident is a crime.”
The police clarified that Robins was not in a formal pursuit but attempting to gauge McMahon’s speed. Despite this, the video suggests a different narrative, with Robins remarking, “I’m trying to catch up to you and you keep taking off,” to which McMahon insisted, “No, no no. I’m not trying to outrun you.”
The incident has garnered significant media attention, particularly due to McMahon’s previous controversies with WWE, including his resignation as CEO amid sexual misconduct allegations. Following the crash, he was seen interacting positively with law enforcement, shaking hands with officers after receiving the traffic summons.
This latest episode in McMahon’s storied career raises questions about his future and the implications of reckless driving, especially as the public scrutinizes his actions in the wake of ongoing legal battles.
As the story develops, further details are expected to emerge regarding the crash and its aftermath. Stay tuned for updates on this urgent matter.
