Wright Twp. Appoints Scott Rozitski as New Police Chief

BREAKING NEWS: Wright Township has officially appointed Sgt. Scott Rozitski as the new interim police chief during a special meeting held on December 29, 2023. This decision comes just days after the retirement of Chief Royce Engler, who served the department for an impressive 47 years, including the last 13 years as chief.

Rozitski, a veteran with 28 years of service in the department, is anticipated to be confirmed as the permanent chief during the township supervisors’ regular meeting on January 12, 2024. The board expressed pride in the decision to promote Rozitski, emphasizing the importance of fostering leadership from within the police force.

“This decision honors the township’s tradition of developing and promoting leadership from within,” stated Supervisor Paul Krzywicki. He added that Rozitski’s experience and understanding of community values will ensure continued safety and progress in Wright Township.

Rozitski began his law enforcement career with the Warrior Run Borough Police Department in 1996 and joined Wright Township as a part-time officer in 1997. He became a full-time officer in 1999 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2012, specializing in major crime investigations. His leadership in achieving the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission accreditation in 2024 set Wright Township apart as the only accredited police department in Mountain Top and one of just seven in Luzerne County.

A graduate of the FBI National Academy and Penn State University’s Police Executive Development programs, Rozitski has undergone extensive training in various critical areas, including homicide investigations, child abuse, and cybercrime. Additionally, he holds certifications as a CVSA Voice Stress Examiner, a DARE instructor, and a crisis negotiator.

Residents can take comfort in Rozitski’s deep roots in the community. He moved to Mountain Top in 1994 with his wife, Lori and their two sons, Kyle and Caden. Rozitski is also recognized for his active involvement in local sports, coaching youth baseball and football, contributing to significant victories including two district championships.

In his first public statement as interim chief, Rozitski expressed his commitment to guiding the department into the future.

“I’ve had the privilege of working under two outstanding chiefs and aim to incorporate their leadership qualities as I guide the department forward,”

he said.

As the fourth police chief in the last half-century, Rozitski’s appointment marks a significant milestone for Wright Township. His leadership is expected to enhance public safety and foster a stronger connection between the police department and the community it serves.
