Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Issues Stark Warning to Trump

Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated sharply, highlighted by a stark warning from General Mohammad Pakpour, the commander of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. Pakpour declared that Iran is “more ready than ever, finger on the trigger,” an announcement made as U.S. naval vessels moved toward the Middle East. This message underscores the fraught atmosphere following Iran’s violent crackdown on recent anti-government protests.

On Saturday, Pakpour cautioned both the United States and Israel to “avoid any miscalculation.” The Revolutionary Guards have been instrumental in suppressing dissent within Iran, where unrest erupted on December 28, 2023, following a significant currency collapse. The protests lasted approximately two weeks and, according to various reports, have resulted in over 3,000 deaths due to the government’s brutal response. This situation has drawn widespread condemnation from the international community.

As U.S. naval assets, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, were confirmed to be positioned in the Indian Ocean, President Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to a strong military presence in the region. During a flight on Air Force One, Trump stated he was deploying warships “just in case” military action becomes necessary, stressing, “We have a massive fleet heading in that direction and maybe we won’t have to use it.”

Trump’s administration has consistently issued stern warnings to Tehran, establishing two key red lines that could provoke military intervention: the killing of peaceful protesters and the mass execution of detainees. The President indicated that any military response would be significantly more impactful than previous strikes against Iranian uranium enrichment facilities, which he described as “looking like peanuts” in comparison.

Despite the absence of large-scale protests in recent days, the toll of the government’s crackdown continues to rise.
