Navy Dismisses Commodore of First Naval Construction Regiment

The United States Navy announced the dismissal of Commodore Douglas Whimpey from his position at the First Naval Construction Regiment on Friday. The decision was attributed to a “loss of confidence in his ability to command,” according to an official statement. The Navy has appointed Capt. Angel Santiago, commander of the Naval Construction Group, to oversee the transition. Capt. Steven Sherman will succeed Whimpey in the role.

Following his removal, the Navy confirmed that Whimpey’s dismissal will not impact current operations, and he has been reassigned to the staff at Navy Construction Group 1.
