A 19-year-old man has accepted a plea deal following a dramatic police chase that lasted over 32 miles while an infant was in the vehicle. Tandyn Hall pleaded no contest to charges of fleeing an officer and third-degree child abuse on February 25, 2024.

In exchange for this plea, several charges were dismissed, including second-degree child abuse, having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, operating with a suspended license, and displaying an unlawful license plate.

The incident unfolded on November 11, 2023, around 10:00 a.m., when a police officer from the Fremont Police Department attempted to stop Hall for a traffic violation within the city limits. Hall refused to comply, prompting a pursuit that extended through Newaygo County. The chase concluded near the intersection of South Poplar Avenue and 28th Street when Hall’s vehicle became disabled. He was taken into custody without further incident.

A female passenger in the car was released at the scene. During the investigation, officers discovered a six-month-old child who was improperly restrained. Medical personnel evaluated the infant and confirmed there were no serious injuries.

Chief Tim Rodwell emphasized the importance of officer actions in ensuring the safety of the public and those involved in the incident. “Our officers acted swiftly to protect not only the public but also those inside the vehicle,” he stated. “We are deeply grateful that no one was seriously hurt and that the child received immediate care. Incidents like this remind us of our shared responsibility to keep one another safe—especially our youngest and most vulnerable residents.”

Hall is scheduled for sentencing on February 25, 2024, at 10:10 a.m.
