Virginia U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan Steps Down After Indictments Fail

Interim U.S. Attorney for Virginia, Lindsey Halligan, is leaving her position following unsuccessful attempts to indict New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey. The announcement was made by Attorney General Pam Bondi on the social media platform X, marking the end of Halligan’s brief tenure, which began on September 22, 2023.

Bondi described Halligan’s departure as the result of “deeply misguided” circumstances that hinder the ability of a democratically elected president to appoint key law enforcement officials.
