André Øvredal’s New Horror Film ‘Passenger’ Set for 2026 Release

Paramount Pictures has announced a release date for the anticipated horror film titled Passenger, directed by André Øvredal, known for his work on the acclaimed film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on May 29, 2026.

Øvredal, a Norwegian filmmaker, gained recognition for his 2010 film Trollhunter, followed by The Autopsy of Jane Doe in 2016, and Mortal in 2020. His recent project, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, was released in 2023, further solidifying his reputation in the horror genre.

Details regarding the plot of Passenger are currently scarce. It is important to note that this film should not be confused with the similarly titled movies released in recent years, including the 2016 film starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, or the 2008 film featuring Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson.

The cast of Passenger includes notable actors such as Jacob Scipio, known for roles in Maintenance Required and Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Lou Llobell from Foundation and Voyagers, and Melissa Leo, who appeared in The Equalizer 3 and The Fighter.

Competition for the May 29 release date includes Stop! That! Train!, an action-comedy directed by Adam Shankman and featuring RuPaul Charles. Additionally, Disney and Lucasfilm will premiere The Mandalorian and Grogu on May 22, while Amazon MGM Studios will release the highly anticipated Masters of the Universe film on June 5.

The film is produced by Gary Dauberman under his Coin Operated banner, with Walter Hamada also producing for 18Hx. Discussions regarding a sequel to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark have been ongoing, although no official release date has been announced. Furthermore, Øvredal is reportedly set to direct a feature film adaptation of the popular video game Bendy and the Ink Machine.
