New York Joins Five Cities to Host Olympic Soccer Matches

Six cities in the United States, including New York City, have been selected to host soccer matches during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The announcement, made on Tuesday by the event organizers, confirmed that group stage games will take place in New York, as well as in Columbus, Ohio; Nashville, Tennessee; St. Louis, Missouri; San Diego, California; and San Jose, California.

Reynold Hoover, chief executive of LA 2028, informed members of the International Olympic Committee that the matches will be held in “premier existing Major League Soccer stadiums.” The prestigious Rose Bowl in Pasadena has already been designated to host knockout and medal games, underscoring the importance of these venues for the Olympic soccer competition.

In a notable shift for the tournament’s structure, the women’s soccer event will feature 16 teams for the first time, surpassing the men’s event, which will include only 12 teams.
