Tyler Reddick Defends Michael Jordan After Viral Interaction Controversy
NASCAR racer Tyler Reddick has publicly defended NBA legend Michael Jordan following a viral video that sparked controversy regarding an interaction between Jordan and Reddick’s six-year-old son. The clip, which surfaced after the 2026 Daytona 500 victory celebration, has drawn accusations of inappropriate behavior towards the child from various online commentators.
During an interview on February 19, 2026, with Stephen A. Smith on SiriusXM, Reddick shared his perspective on the incident. “From my perspective, I’ve gotten to know Michael and his family very well over the years I’ve been here with 23XI Racing,” he stated. “I don’t see what other people see when it comes to this.”
The interaction occurred as the 23XI Racing team celebrated their remarkable win at the Daytona 500, a significant achievement for both the team and Reddick, who joined the organization in 2022. This victory marked the team’s first-ever Daytona 500 win, elevating Reddick’s status within the NASCAR community.
Reddick emphasized the joy surrounding the celebration, recalling the happiness evident on the face of Yvette Jordan, Michael’s wife, and the entire Jordan family. “For me, it’s a huge moment. This is the biggest moment of my career,” Reddick added. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share that moment with both his family and Jordan’s family, dismissing the negative interpretations that surfaced online.
The incident has divided public opinion. While some critics continue to assert that Jordan’s actions were inappropriate, many others have come to the defense of both Reddick and Jordan. One online user remarked, “Reddick knows MJ and his family well—it’s just a joyful celebration moment. People twisting a wholesome clip into drama is peak 2026 internet. Let the champ and team enjoy the W!”
As the co-owner of 23XI Racing, Michael Jordan’s involvement in the NASCAR team has brought significant attention to the sport. Reddick, who races with the number 45, has been a standout driver for the team, contributing to its growing reputation in the racing world.
The video and the subsequent reactions highlight the complexities of public perception, especially in the age of social media, where moments of celebration can quickly become contentious due to varying interpretations. Reddick’s comments serve as a reminder of the personal relationships that exist behind the scenes, emphasizing the importance of context in evaluating such interactions.
