Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton has been diagnosed with shingles and will be sidelined for several weeks, according to head coach Rick Carlisle. The announcement came on Sunday, marking another setback for Haliburton, who has yet to play this season due to a torn Achilles sustained during Game 7 of the 2023 NBA Finals.

Haliburton, despite his injury, has remained present on the bench during games, providing support to his teammates. Coach Carlisle detailed the circumstances surrounding Haliburton’s diagnosis, explaining, “It’s a very painful thing. He will make a full recovery, but this happened over the last few days. He was meeting us in D.C. and had some odd symptoms, and he came back here.”

Shingles, a viral infection characterized by a painful skin rash, is caused by the same virus that leads to chickenpox. The condition can cause significant discomfort and may take time to heal. Carlisle further expressed his optimism about Haliburton’s recovery, stating, “We certainly wish him a speedy recovery. It’s a unique case and a unique situation, but I talked to him a few times, and he’s always in a good mood, so he’ll get through it.”

As Haliburton recovers, the Pacers are struggling on the court, currently holding a record of 15-42, which places them at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The absence of their star player has compounded the team’s challenges this season, and fans are hopeful for a swift return to form for Haliburton.

With the team navigating through these difficulties, Carlisle’s support for Haliburton remains crucial. The situation highlights not only the physical challenges athletes face but also the emotional resilience required to overcome personal health setbacks. The Pacers will continue to adapt their strategies in Haliburton’s absence, focusing on fostering team cohesion and performance as they look to improve their standings in the league.
