Jump for a Cause: San Clemente Pier Hosts Unique Fundraiser
On March 10, 2024, participants will have a rare opportunity to jump off the iconic San Clemente Pier in California, all for a good cause. The event, organized by the nonprofit organization Pier Pride, allows individuals to legally leap from the pier in exchange for a donation of $1,000. Funds raised will support critical renovations to the pier, which attracts approximately 2 million visitors annually.
The San Clemente Pier has faced significant wear and tear over the years, prompting this initiative as the area prepares for the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where surfing competitions will be held. According to Lori Donchak, a board member and co-founder of Pier Pride, “This historic pier is gonna be a hundred years old in 2028, and we are trying to put her in her very best version for 2028.”
The event promises to be safe and supervised, with participants either swimming back to shore or using a water scooter after their jump. Donchak emphasized that this is the only legal way to jump off the pier, apart from participating in the junior lifeguards program. “It is marine safety supervised, and it’s a unique opportunity for the community,” she added.
Funds to Enhance Pier’s Entrance and Landscape
The funds collected during the event will specifically go toward enhancing the entrance of the pier. This includes clearing out the landscape at the entrance and restoring the base of the pier to ensure its longevity and appeal. Donchak highlighted the importance of maintaining the pier not only for current visitors but also as a historic landmark for future generations.
The San Clemente Pier stands at the heart of the city, serving as a vital recreational area for both locals and tourists. The upcoming fundraiser not only aims to improve the pier’s infrastructure but also fosters community engagement and support for local initiatives.
As the date approaches, excitement builds around this unique opportunity to support a cherished landmark while enjoying a thrilling experience. Participants are encouraged to sign up early, as spots for this exclusive jumping event are expected to fill quickly.
For those interested in participating, details on how to donate and register can be found on the Pier Pride official website. This innovative fundraiser combines community spirit with adventure, ensuring that the San Clemente Pier remains a beloved destination for years to come.
