New PS5 DualSense Controller Lacks Expected Removable Battery Feature
PlayStation fans were left disappointed with the recent release of the new DualSense controller for the PS5, as it does not include the much-anticipated removable battery feature. A report earlier this month suggested that Sony was set to launch this new model, which would allow users to replace the controller’s battery as it degrades over time. However, the newly available DualSense model has confirmed that this feature is absent.
In a detailed teardown video shared by tech YouTuber Austin Evans, viewers received an inside look at the new PlayStation 5 Pro model. While the primary focus of the video was on the differences between the PS5 Pro and its predecessor, Evans also examined the DualSense controller. It was revealed that while Sony has updated the internal battery of the DualSense, it is not designed to be easily removable. Thus, speculation surrounding a swappable battery has now been effectively debunked.
Despite the changes, the new DualSense model closely resembles the previous version. This raises questions about whether Sony will consider implementing a removable battery feature in future iterations of its controllers. Over the years, the company has regularly updated its DualSense lineup, introducing new colors and higher-end models like the DualSense Edge. Incorporating a removable battery would likely enhance the value of these premium options, appealing to consumers looking to protect their investments.
While the absence of a swappable battery is disappointing for some users, it does not rule out the possibility of such a feature being introduced in the future. As the current PS5 generation approaches its halfway mark, any significant enhancements to the DualSense controller may not be realized until the anticipated release of the PS6.
In summary, while Sony has made some adjustments to the DualSense controller, the highly sought-after removable battery feature will not be part of this new model. As fans discuss the implications of this decision, the gaming community remains hopeful for future innovations.
