ASDP Prepares 57 Ferries for 2026 Lebaran Travel Surge

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry is gearing up for a significant increase in passenger traffic during the upcoming Lebaran holiday in 2026, with plans to deploy 57 vessels on the Merak-Bakauheni route. These ferries, equipped with a range of facilities, will operate under a single tariff system to streamline the travel experience for millions of holidaymakers.

Partogi Tamba, the General Manager of PT ASDP Bakauheni, confirmed that the company has collaborated with the Ministry of Transportation to conduct thorough feasibility tests on both the ferries and the terminal facilities. “We have completed initial assessments for the readiness of our fleet, and I am pleased to announce that all vessels are prepared for operation,” Tamba stated on March 6, 2026.

In addition to the ferries, critical operational support facilities such as mobile bridges, ramp doors, and gangways have undergone comprehensive inspections. These measures aim to ensure that all infrastructure is ready to accommodate the surge in travel during the holiday period.

ASDP anticipates a rise in passenger numbers, projecting an increase of approximately 2.11 percent compared to the previous year. To effectively manage the expected influx of travelers and vehicles, all stakeholders at Bakauheni Port have agreed on a systematic approach that includes a “arrival-unloading-departure” schedule.

For the 2026 Lebaran travel season, ASDP plans to have a minimum of 28 ferries operational daily, ensuring that the needs of the public are met efficiently. The strategic deployment of these ferries reflects the company’s commitment to providing safe and reliable transportation during one of Indonesia’s busiest travel periods.
