Community Mourns Loss of Barbara Jackson, 78, in Ironton

Barbara Rae Jackson, a cherished member of the Ironton community, passed away on March 3, 2026, at the age of 78. Her death occurred at Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to her family and community.

Born on August 9, 1947, to her late parents, Floyd Amos and Elizabeth “Peg” Lewis, Barbara was a lifelong resident of Ironton. She graduated from Ironton High School in 1965 and embarked on a career that reflected her commitment to service. Initially, she worked as a secretary at Ashland Oil, Inc. before dedicating two decades to Central Christian Church. Barbara retired in 2026, marking the end of a fulfilling professional journey.

Barbara was known for her love of travel, particularly to the beach, as well as her passion for reading and gardening. However, her greatest joy came from spending quality time with her family. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Jackson of Huntington and Jon “Nick” Jackson (Larissa) of Middletown, New York. Additionally, her legacy includes her granddaughter, Lisa (Adam) Stephenson, of Ironton, and her great-granddaughters, Kaylee Lore and Raelyn Stephenson. A close friend, Joseph Fletcher, Jr., also remains to cherish her memory.

Barbara’s passing is felt deeply in the community, not only for her familial ties but also for her contributions to local life. Those wishing to honor her memory can attend the graveside services scheduled for March 9, 2026, at noon at Woodland Cemetery, where Minister Willie Purdee will officiate.
