FGI Dallas Celebrates Joseph Altuzarra and Roberto Coin at Star-Studded Event

The Fashion Group International (FGI) Dallas hosted its annual Night of Stars, where Joseph Altuzarra and Roberto Coin were celebrated for their significant contributions to the fashion and jewelry industries. The event also honored interior designer Corey Damen Jenkins, highlighting the intersection of various creative fields.

Before the ceremony, Altuzarra expressed his excitement, stating, “I am so thrilled. I’ve had a long relationship with FGI, and I have a lot of fondness for the team. Obviously, raising funds for scholarships is so needed, and it’s great that they do it.” His appreciation for FGI’s mission resonated throughout the evening.

While Coin was recognized for his Career Achievement in Jewelry, he could not attend due to recovery following a medical procedure in Italy. Peter Webster, president of Coin’s company, provided an update, noting, “It was a non-invasive surgery, but the doctor wouldn’t let him travel. It’s not life-threatening.” Lori Greiner, a panelist from the television show “Shark Tank” and a friend of Coin, accepted the award on his behalf. “At the heart of Roberto’s timeless Italian classics lies the perfect blend of creativity, quality, and innovation,” Greiner remarked, emphasizing Coin’s impressive portfolio, which includes 1,000 points of sale for his 18-karat gold designs and an annual introduction of 400 new pieces, each featuring a tiny signature ruby.

In recognizing Altuzarra, FGI Dallas noted his impactful work since founding his eponymous label in 2008. Margaret Mallis, a prominent figure within the fashion community, described his designs as a fusion of “the precision of French tailoring with the pragmatism and ease of American sportswear.” This year has been particularly fruitful for Altuzarra, driven by sales in dresses and knitwear, despite challenges stemming from the bankruptcy of minority investor CaaStle in June.

Altuzarra’s recent expansion into Texas includes the opening of his first boutique in Houston’s River Oaks District. This location, previously occupied by Van Cleef & Arpels, marks a strategic move for the designer. He is currently exploring further retail opportunities, stating, “We would love to test Dallas,” as he evaluates potential locations in Highland Park and beyond.

The two-day visit to Dallas was packed with activities, including a trunk show at Stanley Korshak and visits to local vintage and western shops. During his exploration, Altuzarra purchased cowboy boots from Tecovas and unique items from the well-known vintage store Dolly Python. He remarked on the store’s curated selection, noting its combination of a distinct point of view with an array of quirky offerings.

As the Night of Stars concluded, Altuzarra, Coin, and Jenkins exemplified the spirit of innovation and excellence that FGI Dallas strives to promote. Their contributions to their respective fields continue to inspire upcoming generations of designers and artists.
