Schweitzer Mountain, located near Sandpoint, will officially kick off its ski season on December 6, 2023, despite limited operational capacity. The ski area plans to open its Basin Express chairlift, which will operate from 09:00 to 15:30, providing access to the intermediate run known as Midway. Unfortunately, there will be no beginner terrain available at this time.

Snowmaking efforts have been underway at Schweitzer, resulting in the addition of artificial snow complemented by 7 inches of natural snowfall in recent days. The combination of these factors has created anticipation among skiing enthusiasts. “With some of the best snowmaking capabilities in the region, we are thrilled to get people sliding on snow this week,” stated Tom Chasse, Chief Operating Officer of Schweitzer, in a recent news release. He expressed optimism about the season ahead, noting the excitement surrounding the onset of another La Nina winter, which is expected to bring cold temperatures and additional fresh snow.

As the ski area prepares for the season, lift tickets will be available for $55 both online and at the mountain. Although the start of the season may be later than usual, the enthusiasm among staff and visitors alike suggests a promising winter ahead for Schweitzer Mountain.

The focus now shifts to how weather conditions will evolve in the coming weeks, as more snow is anticipated, potentially allowing the resort to expand its operations and offer a greater variety of runs to its guests.
