UPDATE: In a stunning display of power, the Central Minnesota Christian School (CMCS) boys basketball team crushed Lac qui Parle Valley (LQPV) with a score of 104-25 during the Section 3A-North playoffs at Montevideo High School earlier today. This commanding victory sends CMCS, now with a record of 26-1, to the semifinals on March 12 at 5:45 PM.

Despite the overwhelming victory, CMCS coach Ted Taatjes admitted to a restless night filled with worry. Concerns about his team’s mindset heading into the game, especially with a smaller crowd due to inclement weather, weighed heavily on his mind. “I didn’t sleep at all last night, so they definitely had our attention,” Taatjes stated.

The game started on a peculiar note when CMCS received a technical foul for dunking during warmups, allowing LQPV to take an early 2-0 lead. However, that was short-lived. CMCS quickly retaliated with a staggering 15-point run, followed by a 20-point streak, establishing a commanding lead of 35-4 by the end of the first quarter.

Asher Wieberdink led the Bluejays with a remarkable 22 points, while Caleb Asake added 20 points to the scoreboard. The team displayed potent offensive skills with multiple players contributing, including Chase Taatjes and Landon Taatjes, each scoring 15 points.

In other Section 3A-North matchups, the second-seeded Dawson-Boyd defeated Yellow Medicine East 75-50, and the third-seeded Wabasso triumphed over Minneota 81-60. These results set the stage for an exciting semifinal round.

Looking ahead, CMCS will face fourth-seeded Renville County West, who defeated MACCRAY 76-58. Coach Huhnerkoch of RCW emphasized the importance of defensive intensity, having successfully contained MACCRAY’s three-point shooters.

As the playoffs heat up, the championship game is scheduled for 5 PM on March 12 at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, where teams will compete for a coveted state berth.

For fans and players alike, the energy surrounding these playoffs is palpable. Expect all eyes on the upcoming games as the quest for the championship intensifies.
