Max Scherzer Set to Ignite ALCS Game 4 for Blue Jays Tonight
UPDATE: The Toronto Blue Jays are counting on Max Scherzer to deliver a standout performance as he takes the mound for Game 4 of the AL Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners tonight at 8:00 PM EDT. Scherzer expressed his excitement, stating, “I love it. This is what you play for,” emphasizing his desire to be in high-stakes postseason action.
After a challenging season, Scherzer, 41, is determined to make an impact. Although he hasn’t pitched since his last regular-season outing on September 24, where he faced the Boston Red Sox, he is ready to rise to the occasion. This will mark his 26th postseason start and 31st overall appearance in the playoffs.
“I expect Max to be Max,” stated Chris Bassitt, who joins Scherzer on the Blue Jays’ postseason roster. Bassitt made a brief relief appearance in Monday’s 10-3 loss to the Mariners, showcasing the team’s need for a comeback. The Blue Jays must win at least two of three games in Seattle to keep their championship hopes alive, having dropped the first two games at home.
Scherzer’s recent performance has raised some concerns; he holds a record of 0-3 over his last eight postseason starts since the 2019 World Series. His struggles continued this season, finishing with a 5-5 record and a 5.19 ERA in 17 starts. He acknowledged that injuries, including neck pain, affected him toward the end of the season, but he remains focused on winning. “When I take the mound, I have the attitude that I’m going to win no matter what,” Scherzer asserted.
With the pressure on, the Blue Jays are looking to Scherzer to harness his competitive spirit and experience. “We’re a great team,” he said, reflecting on the resilience demonstrated throughout the season. “Yes, we lost two games. Yes, these are must-win games. We all understand what’s at stake.”
The Blue Jays and their fans are eager for a turnaround as they face the Mariners tonight. Scherzer’s performance could be the key to shifting the momentum in this crucial series. Tune in tonight at 8:00 PM EDT to see if Scherzer can deliver in a moment that defines his legacy and the Blue Jays’ season.
