UPDATE: Subaru has just revealed shadowy images of two highly anticipated STI concepts ahead of the 2025 Japan Mobility Show set for October 29, 2025. The excitement builds as the automaker teases both a fully electric and a combustion engine model, signaling a significant push into the performance vehicle market.

The fully electric Performance-E STI concept flaunts a sleek, fastback silhouette with slimmer headlights and a narrower hood. Its aggressively designed front bumper and striking gold aero covers hint at the performance potential beneath its futuristic exterior. Meanwhile, the Performance-B STI, powered by a traditional internal combustion engine, showcases a sporty hatchback design that competes directly with the GR Corolla, featuring a prominent roof spoiler and bold styling that suggests a WRX lineage.

Notably, this development is surprising given Subaru’s earlier announcement that the STI badge would transition exclusively to electric vehicles. Just months ago, the company confirmed that the WRX STI was discontinued due to tightening emissions regulations. However, the recent launch of the S210 special edition at the Tokyo Auto Salon—a full STI model equipped with a powerful 2.4-liter turbocharged engine producing 296 horsepower—indicates a potential revival of gas-powered performance vehicles.

Both concepts are adorned in red accents and feature the renowned Subaru Tecnica International branding, underscoring their performance pedigree. The anticipation surrounding these models is palpable, as enthusiasts eagerly await confirmation on whether either will enter production.

The 2025 Japan Mobility Show promises to be a landmark event, with Subaru’s STI concepts sharing the spotlight with other exciting models like the Trailseeker and the Forester Wilderness. As the auto industry shifts gears towards electrification, Subaru’s bold move to showcase both gas and electric options illustrates a dynamic approach to performance driving.

Stay tuned for further updates as the Japan Mobility Show approaches. With the auto world watching closely, Subaru’s unveiling could redefine the future of its performance lineup.
