Texas Rangers Sign Three Free Agents to Boost 2026 Roster
UPDATE: The Texas Rangers have just announced significant roster changes, securing deals with three free agents, including catcher Danny Jansen, left-hander Tyler Alexander, and right-handed reliever Alexis Diaz. This urgent move aims to fill crucial gaps as they prepare for the 2026 MLB season.
Earlier today, sources confirmed that Jansen will join the Rangers on a two-year, $14.5 million contract, addressing their need for a starting catcher after parting ways with Jonah Heim. Jansen, known for his right-handed power bat, is expected to add much-needed depth to a lineup that recently acquired outfielder Brandon Nimmo via trade.
The Rangers finished the 2025 season at a disappointing .500, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year after their 2023 World Series victory. With new manager Skip Schumaker at the helm, the Rangers are urgently seeking to revamp their roster and improve their standing in the competitive league.
Alongside Jansen, Texas is enhancing its pitching staff with the additions of Alexander and Diaz. Alexander, a versatile lefty, brings a workmanlike presence to the mound, boasting a 4.98 ERA over 52 appearances last season, which included five starts. His ability to pitch significant innings will be vital for a rotation that is currently dealing with the loss of key pitchers to free agency.
On the other hand, Diaz comes with high expectations despite a challenging 2025 season, which saw him post an 8.15 ERA while pitching for three different teams. The Rangers are banking on his previous success as a closer, hoping to tap into his potential to bolster their bullpen.
With these signings, the Rangers are not just looking to fill roster spots; they are strategically positioning themselves to reclaim their status as contenders in the league. The organization has received inquiries about Corey Seager, the World Series MVP, but no trades are imminent.
This offseason has been pivotal for Texas, as they aim to build a strong foundation and avoid another lackluster finish. The urgency to improve is palpable as they gear up for the upcoming season, and the signings of Jansen, Alexander, and Diaz signal a commitment to competing at the highest level.
As the Rangers continue to reshape their roster, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if these moves can elevate the team back to playoff contention. Stay tuned for more updates as the offseason progresses.
