Roman Griffin Davis Joins Mads Mikkelsen in ‘Wonderland’ Animated Film

Roman Griffin Davis, known for his breakout role in Jojo Rabbit, has been cast as the lead voice in the animated feature Wonderland. The film, produced by the Polish studio Lightcraft, also features acclaimed actor Mads Mikkelsen in a prominent role. In this adventure, Davis will lend his voice to Jake, a 12-year-old boy who, alongside his friend Jenny, encounters mysterious creatures known as the Vagapulga in their dreams.

The project, initially titled Dreamworld, is set to deliver its animated story in 2026. Co-director and producer Daniel Markowicz praised Davis’s understanding of the character, stating, “From the outset, Roman showed a strong understanding of Jake and the emotional logic of the story. That made him a natural fit for the role.”

Davis gained international recognition for his portrayal of Jojo Betzler in Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit, a performance that earned him a Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Young Actor and a nomination for a Golden Globe. His recent credits include roles in Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk, the upcoming Greenland 2: Migration alongside Gerard Butler, and 500 Miles, where he stars alongside Bill Nighy and Maisie Williams. Davis’s voice work extends to the indie hit The King of Kings, where he voiced Walter Dickens.

Production Details and Future Plans

Wonderland is co-directed by Markowicz and Maks Naporowski, with Markowicz also serving as producer. The executive production team includes Paulina Nowak, Derakhshani, and Michael Roesch. The film’s score will be composed by Mikołaj Stroiński, renowned for his work on the critically acclaimed video game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Sales for the film will be handled by Kinostar, which plans to showcase the first sizzle reel of Wonderland to potential buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin this week. The anticipated release highlights a growing trend of animated features that cater to both young audiences and adult viewers, blending imagination with compelling storytelling.
