The Golden Eagles surged ahead after a sluggish start, trailing for much of the first quarter. However, they ignited their performance in the second quarter with a pivotal 9-0 run, shifting momentum firmly in their favor. Columbia Central outscored Hanover-Horton 35-20 in the second half, showcasing their improved teamwork and relentless defense.

said Columbia Central’s Nolan Schiel, who led the team with 14 points. The Golden Eagles’ swift transition and ability to capitalize on turnovers proved crucial in their commanding victory.

Columbia Central coach Jacob Crawford emphasized the importance of teamwork. “We jumped into that press early on… and it seemed like we kind of rolled from there,” he noted. The team exhibited remarkable ball control, committing just four turnovers throughout the game, none in the second quarter.

Hanover-Horton initially set the pace of the game, with Cameron Sherwood scoring 17 points and hitting four three-pointers in the first half. “We were executing our offense well… Cameron was also on fire,” remarked Comets coach Andy Birch. However, the Comets struggled to maintain their early lead as Columbia Central’s defense tightened.

The game started with Hanover-Horton taking a quick 9-3 lead, fueled by Sherwood’s impressive shooting. Yet, as the game progressed, the Golden Eagles found their rhythm. After trailing 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, Columbia Central turned the tide with a series of aggressive plays.

With the Golden Eagles leading 36-25 at halftime, the second half saw Columbia Central’s defense shine. Elias Losey, a standout player, made critical steals that contributed to a pivotal 13-1 run, extending their lead to 61-39.

Schiel said of Losey’s potential impact on the team. The Golden Eagles’ depth showed, with nine players contributing to the scoreboard, including Conor Rentfrow with 13 points and David Munro with 12 points.
