NCDMV Launches 10 New Self-Service Kiosks Across North Carolina

Residents of North Carolina now have more options for convenient DMV services as the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) has announced the installation of 10 new self-service kiosks across the state. This initiative follows a successful two-year pilot program, which facilitated nearly 90,000 transactions outside of traditional DMV offices, allowing customers to avoid long wait times.

The new kiosks will be located in key cities, including Raleigh, Charlotte, and Fayetteville, as well as select locations within Harris Teeter, Carlie C’s, and Publix grocery stores. One kiosk will also be situated at the Charlotte South Driver License Office. Currently, nine kiosks are operational, with another set to open shortly in Charlotte, underscoring the demand for efficient DMV services.

Services Offered and Associated Fees

These kiosks provide a range of DMV services, enhancing accessibility for users. According to information on the NCDMV website, customers can renew driver licenses and state IDs, obtain duplicates, renew vehicle registrations, and pay property taxes on new vehicles. Each transaction is designed to take only a few minutes, provided users have the necessary information, such as their license number or renewal notice.

While the convenience of these kiosks is welcomed, users should be aware of the associated fees. Each transaction incurs a convenience charge of $4.95 through the third-party vendor, Neumo, as well as a 2 percent card processing fee. Despite these charges, many customers may find that the ability to bypass lengthy lines makes this option worthwhile.

NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine expressed enthusiasm about the new kiosks, stating on the NCDMV website, “We are excited for this partnership to provide increased access to our services and to serve more of our customers away from the office.”
