Point Loma Rotary Club Hosts 23rd Annual Comedy Night for Charity
The Rotary Club of Point Loma is set to host its 23rd annual Comedy Night on March 20, 2024, at the United Portuguese S.E.S. Hall, located at 2818 Avenida de Portugal. The doors and bar will open at 18:00 local time, with the main show beginning at 20:00. This event aims to entertain the community while raising funds for local service projects.
According to Debra Gookin, the service director for the Point Loma Rotary Club, the event provides a dual benefit for the area. “We at Point Loma Rotary Club view this event as a double whammy for Point Loma,” she stated. “The event is a gift of fun and happiness to our community. The proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorship go right back into the community in the form of service projects for youth, seniors, military families, and more.”
Comedian Tony Calabrese, who has been performing since 1995, will be among the featured acts. He highlighted the diverse comedic styles of the performers slated for the evening. Frances Dilorinzo is expected to bring a “big, international ‘pro’ energy,” combining sharp observations with sudden physical humor. Chris Angell, known for his clean and relatable stand-up, will entertain with insights on midlife and family life. Lastly, Georgia Kelley will share her warm storytelling approach, designed to uplift and engage the audience.
As a former bank president turned comedian, Calabrese’s material often revolves around family dynamics, corporate life, and personal fitness struggles. His experience includes performances at well-known venues such as The Comedy Store and The Improv.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an auction and purchase raffle tickets prior to the show. Additionally, a video loop will showcase ongoing projects and sponsors of the Point Loma Rotary Club, emphasizing the impact of community contributions. The menu will feature a selection of tacos and hamburgers, allowing guests to enjoy a meal while they laugh.
Tickets for Comedy Night are available for purchase at pointlomarotary.org or ticketsignup.io/TicketEvent/PLRCComedyNight. This event promises to be an enjoyable evening while supporting valuable community initiatives.
